I've seen this on Saabs (occasionally) and on VW's all the way back to my wife's old '74 Dasher. Some cars have a tight fit on the wheel to hub, and over time, hilarity follows.
I always make a point of giving the hub a swipe with a little anti-sieze compound whenever I replace a rim. Otherwise, I like giving them a shot of WD-40. The trick is to do this BEFORE you need to replace a tire on a dark night.
