Many thanks for all the helpful advice. Regarding listening or feeling for a nail: sadly that doesn't work when your tires are studded :) and regarding the canned stuff: I actually had a can of that in my car, but after reading the directions decided I didn't completely trust it and didn't use it.

Here's what I ended up doing. When I went out at the end of the day and pulled out of the snowbank I was parked in, I assessed the level of the tire. It was really low, but it had been much lower when I'd filled it that morning. So, reasoning that if my rim was damaged, it probably happened already, I drove the few blocks to the gas station and aired up again, then made the short drive home. I decided not to even chance the hill and went the long way around. This morning, the tire seemed to have held most of the air from last night so I drove over to my mechanic and dropped it off. I had several smallish problems: in addition to the leaking tire, a headlight bulb was out, the exhaust tailpipe was hanging by a hair and making an awful rattle, and I'd been having really bad cold starts with a low voltage readout. Between me and SilverAeroGuy, one of us is over at the mechanic about every other week or so. They loooove us there!
