You are finding there is no one perfect tire..... The Michelin Energy MXV4 is a good tire. It is original equipment on many vehicles because the tire is fairly quiet, gives a good ride, reasonable handling, good dry and OK wet weather traction. The tire does come up lacking in extremely wet or snowy conditions, but that is the trade-off.
I have noticed that thier is a tendency for some driver's to beleive that because they like a certain tire, that everyone else will love it too.
The Pirelli P6 Four Season tires on my wife's 9-3 convertible are a good blend of traction and ride comfort, but are only marginal in extreme wet and are rumored to be worthless in snow. On the other hand the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S on my NG900 have excellent grip in all conditions, but are a bit too stiff to be called comfortable and as you mentioned tramline badly on grooved roadways.
Living in the Pacific Northwest, I am always looking for the perfect all-season tire. For this part of the world (and my driving style) that means good dry traction, excellent wet traction and resistance to hydroplaning, and snow traction good enough to handle a few inches of wet slushy snow 3-5 times a year.
There are lots of tire that meet most or all of the above criteria, but then I have to start trading off things like ride comfort, tramlining, tire noise, etc. And then I have to remember that the tire I would put on my sedan with 16" rims are probably not the same tire I would choose for my wife's convertible with 17" rims.
So you have to find the balance of tire traits that pleases you and your style and regional location of driving. It sounds like the Michelin Energy MXV4 fits your needs. Picking tires can be a long uncertain odyssey, but as you have found out the tire really changes the ride and handling of any car. So now you have a benchmark to compare other tires against, which should make choosing tires in the future easier.
Best of luck to you and your tires.
