Depends on how cold your winters are, but if you are going to buy a new battery anyway I would retire the old one after four years. On cars with electronic ignitions, ECUs, remote door locks etc, a weak battery can cause no end of headaches.
A good way to tell: Nake sure the battery is charged. Turn the engine off and leave the ingition in the ON position. Turn on the radio, lights, but not the ACC. Wait 1/2 hr. Even on a cold day, the car should start easily. If not, the battery is getting weak.
