I have had a Roper set for 10 years and I had to have a clutch in the washer and a heating element in the dryer just this year. I talked with the repairman who told me that in his mind Roper was the only way to go for several reasons. Number one and most importantly, they do not have computerized controls, which are highly expensive to repair and do not last as long as the old button/switch types. Number two, they are made with the repairman in mind. All parts are easily accessable and labor time to replace parts is much lowner than most other brands. For instance, he changed the drum clutch in my washer in about 15 minutes (I am not kidding) and he told me that in a standard Maytag, it would take him an hour. For the heating element, he removed that back )5 screws) and removed the heating element unit (2 screws and one electric plug) and put it back together. Both repairs were about $125 total for parts and labor. I wouldn't buy anthing but Roper now.
