I have a 1997 900S (2.3L NA Auto) with 106,000 miles and it has never stranded me. (Knock on wood). The only time I couldn't drive it was when the battery died and it did so at my apartment. I was overdue for changing it anyway. When the alternator went, it gave me plenty of warning to get to a repair shop. It runs and feels almost like new. I highly recommend a similar vehicle. I also have a 2004 9-3 Linear and the only functional issue I have had is that the seat height adjuster lever needed to be re Loc-tited. There is one rattle and one noise the headliner makes over big bumps, but that's it. I have 11,700 miles on that one.
Good luck and hope to see you stay in the Saab family.
