Sad. What brought me to Saab, was Saab (i.e., Viggen, 9-3, 9-5, etc.) and utilization of great engineering (9-2X). It was NOT General Motors. GM was the evil to be endured to get the Saab. I would never own a GM brand (except for possibly a Corvette, although I would gladly go to Subaru) because the overwhelming corporate attitude of GM is not what do I, the customer, wants, but here is Uncle will feed to you, and a tendency to design a car to be ultra difficult to do your own (even minor) maintenance work. I never liked a car that told me to lock the doors or turn on the headlights. I do that myself as well as turn on the lights whenever the wipers are on. Fortunately Saabs were programable in their nag modes.
If the SportCombi makes it to market in Aero (or better) form without costing as much as a Mercedes, I will jump on it, but if not -- a German GM is still GM, still subject to being orphaned as the result of unrelated stupid corporate decision, still with the Generals corporate attitude, and with the real kicker that the real Germans (Mercedes and BMW) offer better resale value.
It is interesting that the US makers use the Euro brands to give themselves Euro prestige, only to alter them away from the original features that made them popular or orphan them. GM is not alone, Ford also has the rich history (Capri, Merkur).
I felt the Viggen and pre-SS 9-3 offered so many of the features I liked in my past cars, but at a much higher level. I guess I am disappointed it may not remain that way.
