I have Vonage at home. For $30 a month I get 500 minutes plus a seperate fax line unlimited calling anywhere in US. For $10 more, I could get unlimited US minutes. My old phone bill was just as expensive and didn't include the national minutes; i had to sign up for long distance seperately.
Make sure you
1. have a broadband connection already in place
2. enable 911 service, if you wish and if the VOIP carrier has it. I know Vonage does, but you have to physically activate it.
I like the voice mail as well, it will automatically send you an e-mail with the voicemail attached as a .wav file, that way you can save it, e-mail it, or whatever. I think the setup fees for the piece of hardare you need were like about $40 or $50 as well.
Good luck.
