Saab Announces Its Newest Model: the Saab 9-6X
Detroit, MI - Continuing the biggest product offensive in its history, Saab Automobile AB announces its latest new model, the 2006 Saab 9-6X. Featuring standard all-wheel-drive and two engine choices, the full-size sport/luxury sedan will fill Saab's need for an larger, more upscale entry is this market segment.
The Saab 9-6X will make its world debut at the Detroit International Auto Show in January 2006, and will go on sale shortly thereafter. Initially, the 9-6X will be produced specifically for the United States and Canadian markets.
The 9-6X will be manufactured on the same line as the existing Buick Park Avenue and will offer the well established 3.8L V6 powertrain or an optional High Output twin turbocharged version in the Aero trim package. The car will be based on the Buick Park Avenue platform and chassis with minor updated SAAB styling.
"We are pleased to continue to expand our product line in the North American market, which is critical to Saab's success," commented Jay Spenchian, new President and COO of Saab Cars USA. "With the Saab 9-2X and 9-7X concept vehicles, the new the 9-3 Sport-Combi, and the upcoming changes to the award-winning Saab 9-5, we are exceeding our commitment to introduce one new vehicle each year for five years."
"Saab is currently the fastest growing European brand in the U.S. market, and the Saab 9-6X will be the perfect addition to our model mix to continue our momentum," said Spenchian. "Research shows that as many as 35 percent of customers who left the Saab brand bought high end American luxury sedans in 2005. The high reliability and comfortable ride made the Buick Park Avenue the natural choice for a basis in expanding the SAAB portfolio. We must position ourselves to recapture many of those lost sales and continue to broaden our brand's appeal to new buyers. The 9-6X allows us to join the growing market with a unique, premium vehicle offering Classic style and the kind of all-wheel-drive versatility and a Twin-Turbo powerplant that we have never had before."
The new model marks Saab's second product collaboration with GM of North America. The new 9-6X will be built at GM's Buick City Assembly plant in Michigan.
Saab Cars USA, based in Detroit, MI, is the importer and distributor of Saab 9-2X, 9-3, 9-5, and 9-7X automobiles, and soon the new 9-6X vehicles.
