I just got os-x for a g3 300 mhz with 128 of ram and 7 gig, I needed to upgrade to use my new iPod (40gig!), plus I just got comcast internet.
With the ipod they said you need usb-2.0, I got a 2.0 hub but the machine only has 1.1 (forgive me if the numbers are wrong, I'm more of a computer user than a builder of same), so it takes ten seconds to download a song, what, I'm going to complain about that?
Anyhoo, I don't see a noticeable difference in starting up programs, whether internet browser, email, or iPhoto, still takes about 20 seconds per, which is fine. I think Bill's problem is the dial up connection, not the computer itself. Os-x is new itself, but they're always upgrading and renaming. I didn't have the $$ for a new computer so the upgrade made sense.
My 2 cents. your mileage may vary.
Mike
