Was at national guard duty in western MA. I had CT plates at the time. I had mailed all my paperwork, etc., for the registration, so I thoguht I was registered. Turns out that I had paid my excise tax late and accrued a .53 cent late fee for being like a week late. When I mailed my registration payment in, they didn't complete my registration because I hadn't fully paid my excise tax (.53 cents). I lived in MA at the time and was registered at my parents in CT, and the mail stating that fact was at my Dad's house where i hadn't been in nearly a month. So I had no idea. I got pulled over for speeding, they had to tow my car and I went to the police station in my full military uniform in the back of the cruiser.
How embarrasing.
I guess you could get away with it just be really really careful. I had to have my mum's drive up from CT to get me, and I missed work on monday to get my car, it cost me nearly $300 dollars ($200 ticket + $100 towing) to get out of that mess. Plus your insurnace doesnt like it.
All over .53 lousy cents.
