I've never done this, because I think vinyl sounds better than CD's and my Turntable is worth more than my SPG. In fact, when I sell some of my excess speaker equipment in the coming month or 2, I'll be getting the tonearm I've always dreamed of: SME V. I want to get a used one for under $2k, but we'll see. I can get a new one from Hong Kong shipped via air for just under $2300. Retail is $4k.
Based on that article, the key is a RIAA phono preamp into your sound card, and the right software. They talk about cleanup, etc. If the record is clean and the TT is set up right, cleanup is a non-issue. My TT gives so few "tics and pops" that I only play LP's during parties and dinner parties we host. Guests can't believe it's vinyl when I go to flip the record. I love their reactions!
As for cleaning, you can wet clean your vinyl and dry them off with a lint-free microfiber towel or BRAWNY paper towels. Brawny is the most-lint free paper towel you can get.
See this link for record cleaning fluid:

10 Wet the LP with a spray bottle.
20 Brush or paper towel it in to clean.
30 Use a fresh paper towel to dry it.
40 Flip record
50 goto 10
Oh yeah, records are total junk. When you're done ripping them, mail them to me for proper disposal! ;P
