Please go to the Dalmation Club of America at http://www.thedca.org/ and check out their links. You can go the rescue route or use their breeder referral service. Tons of background info on this breed - you may find that "common knowledge" is not always accurate or that other factors are involved. Just think, if we listened to what "they say" about Saabs, we would stay away from them! You should also check out the AKC site at http://www.akc.org/index.cfm for useful hints on selecting a dog.
Allow me a further word of advice - please stay away from pet store purchases, these dogs generally come from so called "back yard" breeders who are in it just for the profit, and not in it for the love/improvement of the breed. You will find a breeder who is honest about health issues, has controlled for these in a carefully crafted breeding program, and who will stand by you throughout the entire process. Good breeders are as pasionate about their breeds as we are about our choice of what car to drive.
