For it to work at a resonable speed. 512 or greater is optimal. The processor shouldn't be much slower than a gig for it to be good too. It will work ok if its slower, but just not be as good as it can be.
But I agree that XP is much better than 98. I've had 98, Me, XP Home and XP Pro (and the way old ones like 3.1, etc), and I've found that XP is the most stable and works the best. I like Pro better than Home. Windows Me was worse than 98 IMO.
