During the initial screening, the judge will ask about all those things.
Based on your former employment and you BIL's DA status -- you can easily say that those experiences would effect what you thought of testimony/ the process. The judge will excuse you.
IF, for some strange reason, the judge did not excuse you, if it got as far as jury selection for a trial -- either the prosecutor or defense attorney would almost certainly excuse you.
That said, unless you are a very poor single mom, or similar extreme circumstance, losing a few days income won't get you excused.
My opinion -- report on the day you are scheduled for, tell the judge up front your/family work experiences -- you'll almost certainly be excused. AND because you showed up, you will have fulfilled your jury duty and won't be called again for x years (whatever it is in your state/county).
