coat and tie got me excused

In the first and only time I have ever been called for jury duty, I dressed in a sportcoat and tie.
I was not impressed with the selection procedure. The defendant was present while his attorney and the judge asked each prospective juror several fairly personal questions (regarding employment, family, where you have lived, etc.). I was thinking, why should I have to answer these questions in front of the defendant? Anyway, they went for a jury of the defendant's peers, because all the professional people and grandparents were excused. It turned out the jury they picked ended up finding him guilty after about two hours of deliberation. He was convicted of threatening the life of a federal judge, while he was serving time in prison. Nice guy.
I think I'll repeat the coat and tie trick if I'm called again.
