Hi fellow Saabers,
I know this is waaaayyy out of the way. But I have a pet rabbit, who hasn't eaten in two days. Last day or so, it didn't seem like she drank anything. She's a dutch rabbit (very cute). Three years old. I call her she, because my daughter thinks it's a she. Anyways, when I pick her up and she bolts, she seems to have a lot of liquid (slushing sound) in her system. She isn't bloated, but I'm thinking may be she's got some sort of rabbit constipation. She refuses to eat even her favorite seeds/nut mix.
Here's the dillemma. I've been advised to take her to the vet. I could take her to a vet to check her out, at the rate of $75 or so. Or I can give her up to the animal shelter and get another rabbit for less, if I want another rabbit (of course, it will be devastating to my kids, if there is not a replacement rabbit). I know if she were a dog, I'd probably be thinking less this way. But more business minded than having animal compassion for rodents, I can't help thinking this way. Hmmm, choices. Are there any vets here that I can get some advice on what to do? Should I be humane and spend the money and take her to the vet? I'm going to keep a closer eye on her for the next few days, trying different foods, hoping that she'll come back around. She hasn't excatly been the ideal pet (as there is very little response of affection, but what can one expect from a rabbit?). I received her from a friend who couldn't take care of her...
Thanks for your advice...
James from Michigan...
