If you happen to hit it off well during the interview, personality wise, not business wise; with a casual, easygoing atmosphere, you might try this. On all interviews, not that I've had that many, I keep a folded $50 bill in my shirt pocket. Now depending on the tone of the interview, and especially if you realize your interviwer has final say for hiring, the $50 bill comes in handy. There have been a time or two, where I have taken it out and said something like; " Now I realize many of the prospective applicants you are interviewing are all equally qualified for the position; and making a hiring decision could be difficult. Consider this, and put the $50 bill in his pocket, a token of my appreciation on coming aboard, and please take your wife out to dinner tonight on me". I 've tried this on 3 interviews, now realize I'm not applying for CEO of Exxon-Mobil, just an average blue collar job. Once it worked-got hired, the interviewer actually loved it. Next time, interviwer would not take it, laughed, got hired anyway. Third time, interviewer did not take it, laughed and though I was trying to buy the job, did not get hired. Also, if you have nothing to loose this gesture will set you apart from the other applicants. Nuff said.
