I had a near-miss a few months back too

In early March or so I was on the Mass Pike (rt. 90) going east, to take the
95N exit with my wife & toddler in the back. There was a heavy downpour, and I passed a tractor-trailer that was kicking up tons of spray. Since the exit was about a half mile away, I was ahead of the TT in the right-hand lane. A state cop passed me and pulled into my lane pretty close, so I hit the brakes. The rig behind me started to dodge to his left, so I went right to the breakdown lane to avoid a rear-ending. Up ahead I saw why the cop was pulling over - a car stopped in the breakdown lane! I then had to go two lanes to the left to go around the cop (while accelerating to avoid any oncoming traffic), and then took the exit a few tens of yards later.
Tires were Nokian RSI snows. The Saab (2001 9-5 wagon) handled beautifully in the emergency handling - it was totally stable and controlled, and while the situation was stressful the car responded immediately and was no where near its limits. The tires gripped great in cold driving rain at highway speeds, too. I love this car!
Oh, and last week's vacation: 2 adults, one toddler, 8 days of stuff in the trunk, everything fit easily with the Saab cargo guard in place making the trunk even more useful. 30 mpg highway, 23 mpg trip average, avg speed 30 mph.
