To me AWD means I can launch the car as hard as I want with out having to worrying about spinning the tires, It means that I can get on the power MUCH sooner that FWD when coming out of a turn, It means that I can use power to recover from a drift that got a little out of hand.
The disadvantage is it means that I have to make a lot more HP at the crank to produce similair WHP to an FWD car. It also means that people say "Okay let's try it again, but this time from a roll"
