The attic fan will work if I want to use it. I do not want to rely on it.
A vapor barrier on the attic floor would be bad. You are supposed to use a permiable membrane there.
No exhaust fans are pointing into the attic. The source of extra heat in the attic is a furnace. You would have seen that if you read carefully.
I will not get ice dams if I run with the attic fan but I do not want to rely on it. I have already updated the attic insulation and fixed the soffit vents but I think I would still get them without running the attic fan or making other changes.
What I want to do is KEEP THE ROOF COLD so that it does not melt the snow. Part of the attic is insulated and finished and that section of the roof does not get ice dams. That part of the attic is not heated FYI.
