Mike, your analysis is right on target. You said two things, and they are both correct (1) the GMS price wasn't any better than the price that consumers who did their homework were already getting, but (2) it was "some of the best pricing ever" and because they understood that, buyers went for it.

It confirms what some of us have been telling Saab executives for years: stop putting ridiculously high MSRP on cars that overstate the true selling price by $10,000. The serious buyers will go through what they need to go through to convince the sales guy they want the correct price, but the casual tirekickers will be scared off by the high sticker AND WILL NEVER SERIOUSLY CONSIDER BUYING YOUR PRODUCT!
