They've been through so many incarnations through the years. Got a couple of albums on the 'Pod from their fusion phase in the '80's, "three of a perfect pair" and "beat", there's one other in that trilogy that I can't recall right now. The things they were doing with time (3/4 into 4/4, 6/4, fractions I can't even name, all in one song) was amazing. I think I had their first "album" too, acid rock stuff.
Short story, in college (peoria) we played "larks tongues in aspic" at a jazz band concert, we were down the highway from Urbana where belew is from, so we thought we should invite him to hear it. Well, it turns out the "adrian belew" in the phone book was a nice old lady used to college students dropping in, but no the KC belew. And we drove there like dummies.
If you like their later stuff, check out adrien belew's solo albums (not too bad) and his group The Bears from mid-late '90s, which is more palatable than the crazy stuff.
