I have also seen these kits for sale, and was impressed as well as interested in the idea.
I have also visited some forums that discuss application of these types of kits, and both websites have their fans and their detractors. Some folks have reported low-quality welding and lots of leak problems from the WVO tanks included with the kits. Others have reported nothing but delight.
The one site that was the most encouraging to me is listed below. While it has lots of information about biodiesel (including how to make your own), it has also has information about other eco-friendly technology such as vermiculture, composting, solar energy, etc.
I'm renting a second-floor apartment currently, and my landlord already freaks out if I leave a car jacked up overnight. There's a lot of things that I'd like to explore when I move into my house!
