There is no way that advertising can be driving this! GM is the top three in advertising spending in the WORLD! BMW is no where near the top on that list. Open up any automotive magazine, with the exception of DuPont Registry and GM ads will far out weigh the placement of any other manufacturer.

While we are on it. Lexus just recently began pushing for product placement in EDITORIAL content. So if Conde Nast does a story on a hotel and has pictures of it, well there might just be an SC430 in the shot. Pay for play? That's a touch area.

I agree that most publications have a h*rd on for european makes but I really don't think that ad dollars is the reason. The only special exceptions they will make for you may be an extension on the material close date (i.e. you got the ad in late and they were going to give it to someone else)

I work at an ad ageny on an automotive account and have to deal with publications on a weekly basis.

But I know you like Macs and Saabs so we are cool ;-)
