I hope she gets reimbursed for mileage!
I think the 9-5 will be good for quite a while longer without breakdowns seems that it's only three y.o.. Perhaps a spare DIC would be useful.
A car kit for the cell phone can make a phone work where it wouldn't if it were just a phone to the ear. The external antenna makes a big difference in terms of reception.
You could take it to a Saab friendly shop and get them to check proper operation of suspension parts. A bad shock or balljoint probably wouldn't cause an immediate breakdown, but would increase the quality of handling and ride. They can look for any exhaust pinholes or other emerging problems as well. You should probably do this before spending too much time dwelling on the decision. It might be in great shape and not need much at all!
Of course a dealer will often recommend a new car if they know you are concerned, but that's their job and it's to be expected. A new car can have suprise defects that are all sorted out on a well maintained newer used car. Perhaps that's why roadside assistance is common with new cars.
