Of the factors that can affect it, friction ranks at the top. More cylinders have more moving parts and, for a given displacement, will have more internal friction. The rolling resistance of the tires and the internal friction of the driveline (FWD is usually better here) will play a part as well.
The gearing of the two vehicles could affect it as well with a lower geared car (i.e. higher revs for a give road speed) requiring more fuel.
Of course, all of the above holds true for steady speeds. The G35 has a lot more power than a Linear. Are you, ahem, having fun with it :-) That will suck up plenty of fuel right there.
