Bill,
I'm also lucky. I've gone through many, many systems and speakers. I had Legacy Focus's (Foci? - 2 pairs at differnt times, actually), big-ass Acoustat panels (a.k.a. cloth covered doors) and many others.
So I have some big horns, and she tried to get me to sell them. I tried, no takers. So I stored them for about a year and bought a pair of Legacy Foci in Rosewood. Man were they sexy. Big, but beautiful color and woodwork. My wife loved the finish and imaging of the Legacies, but over time we found we didn't play them as much. I then pulled out my eXemplar horns, and she cringed at the sight of them. Once fired up with 8 huge watts of single ended 300B power, we both smiled ear to ear. Point of the story... Low WAF but incredible sound is OK if your wife is also a fan of music. To this day she often jams on one of her guitars along to music on my rig. When I'm out of town on business the normal reason she doesn't get the phone when she's home is because she can't hear it. She's a keeper!
Another tanget: audio in the basement... I have a 2 pals with dedicated basement rooms, ane they're fantastic. The problem is (in my mind) that you have to specifically go down to listen. I've had systems in the living room in my last 2 places (and current place) and love it. I can listen and read, clean up the place, work on a project, cook, or whatever. My current kitchen faces the living room and has a big hole. I can watch TV or listen to tunes. I couldn't be happier. The only problem is that it's a condo, so I can't play things super loud.
