I think they are just trying to have names that will fit in and sound good in the local tongue. I like the how SportKombi looks; I would call them that in any English speaking market. I wonder if Porsche will have issue with SAAB using "SC" somewhere? Considering they had to use 911 because Peugeot had TM'd '901' already.
I originally thought that SAAB used 'linear' on the 9-5 because the engine was linear, and 'arc' because the engine was arc (kind of). The use of these names on the 9-3 blows that theory though.
As an aside, calling any British car from the 1970's or early 1980's 'Mist' in German was quite apt...
