It was 9/11.....yeah...that 9/11. I was going home from work on a toll road that is notorious for CHP using radar to control speeders. I was traveling up a steep grade in my '97 black Aero...doing about 85. As I near the crest I slow as there is usually a CHP waiting on the downgrade. It is dark...and, a black BMW passes me doing about 100+. As soon as he gets about 50 yards ahead of me he slams on the brakes and I pass him doing maybe 65 or 70. You guessed it. A CHP parked on the side of the road hits his lights and pulls me over letting the BMW go.
Officer says he got me going 95. I never see this guy as he stands and does not bend to look at me face to face. He going back to his car with my license and reg. and returns with a written ticket for 95. In Ca. if you don't sign...you go to jail.
I did sign the ticket and expressed to the officer that the reason I am signing is to avoid going to jail...and, I intend to fight the ticket in court because I was going the speed limit and his radar had picked up the BMW. I did win in court...but, Probably the most ridiculus part was the officer trying to explain to the judge how he was personally tested against a radar detector and could differentiate within 2 MPH of actual speed up to 70 MPH. When he said that under my cross...I rested immediately. The judge's gavel could not come down fast enough to dismiss.
