..yes, I know the area. My wife grew up there, and my mother-in-law lives a 10 minute walk from the place where you dropped off your car. So I won't be needing a cab.
They've actually dug a train tunnel under a large part of the city, so that the central station now also serves all the through trains, or will, soon; last time I was there they'd just finished digging. Actually, from Noel's comments, it seems that the Thalys is indeed already stopping at the central station, because I can't imagine there are that many good restaurants around the Berchem station.
Hmmm.. restaurants in Antwerp... looking forwad to going there next month. Though my favorites are not the ones near the central station (Keyserlei), but around the cathedral and the Suikerrui, near the City Hall.
Let me know if anyone plans on going there and needs some recommendations.
