CPO Advice Wanted. Should I go 2002 9-3 or 9-5?

I was a TSN member about 6 years ago (1986 900S). When the transmission on that car gave up in 1999 I left the Saab fold and went with a 2000 Honda Civic Si. That car has since been stolen - TWICE! This time they havent found it yet and it looks like I could be in the market for a "new" car in the next week or so. I was thinking about getting back into the Saab fold with a certified pre-owned. I'm in the Northeast and I was thinking either a 2002 9-3 SE or 2002 9-5 (likely Arc or Linear, but I have seen an Aero or 2 available). The price difference between a 9-3 and 9-5 seems pretty small. My questions 1) which would be the better car, primarily from a reliability and maintenance standpoint? I'd prefer manual but would consider an automatic (as a concession to my wife). 2) Any recommendations/hints/tips/tricks I should know about buying either of these models as a certified pre-owned? 3) Is the certified option worth it if the car has factory warranty remaining?
Thanks,
Steve
