There are a lot of commited 9-5 fans on the board, it's definitely supposed to be a more refined/luxurious ride, but I love my 9-3. Really a question of whether the larger car is "better" for you, or if you like or need the hatchback. Personally I love the hatch, been hauling all kinds of things that would be nearly impossible in a traditional sedan.
As far as CPO goes, it's worth the money no matter what... it's a ~$1200 two year warranty extension from Saab. The peace of mind along was worth it for me.
For reliability both have the dreaded "DI Cassettes" which will be the subject of a recall in March '06. Aside from that they're mature models and at least the 9-3 isn't known for a lot of other problems. Either of them should be more reliable than your C900 and the auto trannies are virtually bullet-proof from what I've heard. Take care of it (esp. the oil) and you'll do fine.
The only minor gripe I have with the 9-3 is that the rear seats don't fold flat like they did in the C900. That's a major draw for me with the Sport-Combi... which I hope to get CPO in '10 or so.
I'm a confimred turbo junkie and my wife swears I love the car ALMOST as much as I do her, I think you'll be happy with it.
