Apple has a whopping 4% of the market. The last thing it needs to do is try and compete on the low end against folks like Dell. What, to get a 50% market share increase and capture 6% of the market?
The margins of low-end computers is razor thin. Folks like Dell live there, and they have issues. Anyone remember Gateway?
Apple has a technical advantage in hardware and OS. They're doing just fine. If someone is price sensitive, let them buy the PC. I think Macs are a great value, even if they do cost more.
Hey, I could buy a Chevy Cobalt for thousands less than a Saab. Yet I buy the Saab. Should there be an entry level stripper Saab? Why? Same thing with Macs. I'd prefer Apple stay out of the super low margin / high volume business, and put their money into building quality products.
