Dell is basically a retail sales outlet for Intel. It's only a matter oftime before they join the crowd and sell AMD systems also like all the other consumer computer companies. AMD is a lot of bang for the buck, and are rather power efficient. sempron is the lower end AMD, but since amd64 isn't much more, it makes sense to go that way.
I just fired up a new AMD64x2 4400 system. Wow. Fast. Compiled apache in 8 seconds. I'll be using it for different things than you and will be using all 64 bits and both processors to scan hundreds of thousands of incoming emails a day for virus and spam detection.
