Maybe a few good tips from a skilled buddy, but you only get better by getting the feel of it, and no amount of coaching can give you that. And you do get better - way quicker than skiing. I skiied exclusively for 20 years and took up snowboarding 4 years ago; the learning curves are exact opposites... The first session of snowboarding is black-and blue & excruciating, but once you link your first few turns, you nearly double your skill on every subsequent run. In comparison, I find that slot of skiers can immediately eke their way down the hill, but their improvements plateau pretty early, and never really progess beyond that level without lessons. The thing with skiing is that motions or stances that feel good or natural are often wrong, and keep you at a novice level. Getting better at snowboarding just flows and is alot less technique dependant.
Plus, snowboarding doesnt exhaust your legs like skiing does - bye bye busted quads and calves!
