I'd have to disagree here. The sequence is relevant in that putting a transmission into park first, and then applying the emergency brake (parking brake) allows there to be a "wind-up" of the transmission drive components. This often results in a extra force necessary to get from the Park setting of the Autobox to a Drive or Reverse to move the car.
I was always taught to (assuming parking on right side of the road!):
1) turn wheel to the right on downhill, foot brake on, apply parking brake, shift into Park with an auto, reverse on a stick, shutoff and remove key.
2) to restart - foot on brake, clutch in on stick, start car, shift into appropriate gear (drive/reverse or 1st/reverse), parking brake off, and drive away (after looking in all the right directions etc..).
3) when parking on an uphill, turn wheel to the left if a curb exists, but to the *right* if no curb.
Also, not necessary to mash tire to the curb, just touching is sufficient.
but then again, I was taught in the last century ago... lol
