...Apparently the soot from burning fossil fuels is not without benefit. A guy looked at temperature gradients pre, during and post 9/11, when air traffic was grounded. Apparently the soot from jets criss-crosses the country and in some areas may account for 75% of clouds. With the jets grounded nights got colder and days warmer. The soot this guy reasoned was the only difference. That soot seems to protect us by preventing the light from getting to us. Apparently 3 watts of energy per square yard are created by gases, but 1.5 are then blocked by soot, leaving a net of 1.5. By cleaning the emmissions from machines without cutting fuel consumption, he feels we are making a mistake, as we essentially are removing our sunscreen whilest increasing dangerous gases.
Maybe a short term cure for warming is grinding carbon or iron into the consistency of confection sugar and releasing it into the stratosphere. (Iron is cheap, plentiful, and seems to allow Oxygen making algea to more efficiently remove CO2.
