This has been getting fair bit of local coverage b/c the guy that did the research is about an hour down the road from here. His conclusion is not that this is good. Much to the contrary. He believes an artificial interruption of the natural day/evening cycle is potentially damaging to the ecosystem and is something to be concerned about. Although his results were pretty convencing as far as what they spoke to we also need to remember this is for a small slice of time during one season. The clouds formed by contrails can be cooling or warming depending on the nature of the formation. As the ratio of daylight to night changes through out the year and as predominate atmospheric conditions change throughout the year hard to say what tne net effect on tempature might be and I think this is still believe to be unknown.

The key of his finding is that it can artificially and significantly impact the climate. It had already been known for some time that the amount of daylight falling on the earth as dropped significantly and undoutedly the jet contrail contribution is a very small part of this. The worry now is that this has been masking how much global warming potential human activity has created. Bottom line is get clean and reduce greenhouse gases in tandem.
