I have no experience with gophers, but I have successfully fought battles against moles.
Moles are vicious and territorial carnivors. Don't waste your money on poison peanuts or similar products, moles won't eat them. The only solution to get rid of moles is to trap them. I have two styles of traps(impaling spikes from above and crushing pinchers from the sides) and have killed equal quantities of moles with both. The trick is to stomp down all their runways through-out your yard, then note which ones re-open first. These will be the mole's main route and are the spot to place your trap(s).
When I was a kid, our family's Cocker Spaniel would lie in the yard atop their tunnels for hours listening carefully, then dig like mad to capture and kill the moles. She did a great job - if you don't mind moon craters in your yard!
