Deer are a more difficult problem. I have two solutions. One is if you are talking about a veggie garden. Put down black plastic and be sure to let the plastic go out from your edges at least 2 feet. Deer won't walk on it for some reason, but they will eat what they can reach and the plastic will keep weeds down. If you cover it with mulch, they will walk on it though. Secondly, try an electric fence. A charger and supplies can be had at a farm supplier, or just take your socks out at the end of the day and hang them where you don't want them. You can also try to get hair clippings from your barber and spread them around. The socks must be replaced everyday to keep your odor out there and the hair about 2 times a week.
To keep snakes and cats out of your yard, sprinkle math ball granules around the edge of your yard. Don't use moth balls as some kids think they are candy.
