Purina dog chow, Kibbles & Bits, Old Roy?
Before you step up to a prescription diet, you could try a premium dog food. And I don't mean Purina ONE.
I am only vaguely familar with the BARF diet, but I suspect that it is excellent. Certainly is not as easy as opening a bag of kibble.
What does your vet recommend? His prescription diet?
My previous dog ate mostly Iams Lamb & Rice, or Nutro Lamb & Rice. His coat, eyes, everything looked great, no arthritis, and he seemed to be in excellent health until rapid liver problems took him at 10 years old.
I think that I've stepped up the quality a notch for current dog.
good luck
