You don't really indicate if your friend was at fault. But, if that was the case, an your friend (if she is an honest person) should play along with the other party's insurance and seek to pay out-of-pocket instead of involving another insurance company.

Having said that, I have been in a very similar situation, and ultimately the claim was dropped because nothing could be proven. With the absence of damage to my own vehicle, and no police report, and no clear indication of who was at fault, it was very difficult to prove.

Lesson to be learned: always involve the police if you want your insurance claims to hold any weight.
