I am not sure about fault. As I understand it, the person in front of her was going to make a left turn and stopped short. There was a minor tap of the bumpers. Both drivers agreed it was fine and there was no damage, but the other person’s wife was worried and so they took my friends plate down. Their insurance carrier tracked the plate to the registered owner. Why it took them about 4 months is beyond me. There was no reason to involve the police at the time as there was no damage at all to either car.
How did you handle your similar situation that it eventually got dropped?
It is not so much about honesty as my friend claims that there was absolutely not a scratch on either car. The bumpers tapped each other. It seems far more likely that the other people are the ones being somewhat dishonest here. They could have easily damaged the rear bumper a few days/weeks later and still filed a claim.
