now that the new Macs have the Dual Core technology. As for Word and Photoshop, etc., they will run just fine. If you decide you like the Mac better you can get the Mac versions of programs for not a lot of money if you poke around or go to the software vendor sites.
The reliability of Macs in general is amazing. I've had them for 16 years and over 7 computers they have been in for service maybe 3X. With a MacBook, since it's a laptop, I would get the AppleCare plan as laptops tend to get driven harder, but other than that you're probably good to go with a Mac. The next Mac OS (Leopard) due out in a few months will let you switch the OS on the fly.
If you do go to a Windows box, get a pricier, business-oriented model, as opposed to the lower end ones. From what I hear the more expensive ones often have better components (like the hard drive) than the more consumer-level units. I have clients whose companies bought cheaper ones and they have lots of headaches. Some of the cheap ones don't even last a year.
