going to use your laptop, if you really want it to be portable, get one with a smaller screen (i.e. lighter) and check out how long the computer can run on battery between charges.
If you just want something to take with you to your client or use in a hotel where you can always get to an electrical outlet, then the battery life isn't critical.
An extra one pound or two in weight can make a difference if you are going to travel with it all the time.
Recently bought a notebook for travel, it's an off the shelf HP with 14" screen (as I needed it like yesterday). It weights in at about 5 pounds and battery life isn't too good with the standard battery (about 1.5 hours with wireless on).
It's a compromise between weight and battery life. I think something rugged at about 5 lbs and can operate at 2 to 3 hours under battery with wireless at reasonable brightness, you would be fine.
The thing I need most is just for internet access and look at documents, so any CPU would do but the screen has to be big enough for my old eyes but not too heavy for my weak back 8-).
