long rambelings of an architect Posted by Adam [Email] (#344) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Adam) on Tue, 31 Oct 2006 06:54:23 In Reply to: OT:Just repainted bedroom...feel its way too dark now.., AlexA, Mon, 30 Oct 2006 16:59:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
As an architect, I'm not supposed to be great with color, but this is my suggestion.
First off, I've always been a fan of one wall of color. I like to refer to that as the object wall. Like what BurlyBryan said, this works well if there is something defining that wall. My preference is if the wall can wrap around a corner in order to give it a solid look.
Second, in my last apartment, I used a very dark grey, then white for one room. From the doorway, you could see white. As the outside walls were painted white, then the inside walls were painted grey. So, from inside the room, looking out the door, you saw grey. By balancing out the color with a light color, I feel it adds to the contrast, therefore makes that colored wall really stand out.
Another thing to think about is what end result are you looking for? country, contemporary, classic???
I personally lean towards contemporary, and with that I would stick with bold accent colors and white. For a more homey feel, you want warm tones... lighter green, tan etc.
I've rambled enough. Hopefully some of this makes sense and is helpful.
