It's not an epiphany that winter tires are going to be better in the snow than summer performance tires. That's obvious by just looking at the tread: no or few sipes = limited snow/ice traction.
As for all-seasons, your mileage may vary. For casual, cautious driving in occasional light snow all-seasons are OK, but I sure wouldn't want to count on them on a deserted back road or big open interstate in a blizzard, or having to get up a long slippery hill when the last plow went thru two hours and 3" of snow ago.
Plus Goodyear makes bottom-feeder snow tires, so maybe this doesn't say much about Goodyear tires.
