Got one as a gift, won the other in a raffle. Both are lower-end models intended more for off-road use (hiking, biking, boating) than driving. They work okay, but a map will not get a blocked signal or run down batteries. And nobody will want to steal a map out of your car.
Based on my limited experience, I'd say get new maps of your target countries and plan your routes beforehand. GPS is NOT a necessity (despite what car manufacturers will have you believe). A good map, maybe a small clear plastic ruler (to guage distance), a compass and your car's odometer is all you need. Note: some of the larger swiss army knives have both a compass and a clear ruler, and are generally helpful when traveling.
Also helpful is to have your co-driver holding and reading the map while you drive and you BOTH watch for your next turns.
Have fun.
