Thanx for your reply, as well as your interest in this subject. I do recognize that any viable plan to separate SAAB from GM will cost hundreds of millions of dollars (my NFL reference). I'm also fairly certain that such an undertaking is well beyond the resources of any person or group likely to respond to my call for a grassroots campaign, having read it on this website. However, such a campaign would allow those who truly care about SAAB to demonstrate their dedication in a meaningful, affordable way (it beats buying $500 in GM stock in my opinion).
As you correctly point out, a half million dollars is virtually nothing in the overall scheme of things. And at this juncture, if the money were to be raised tomorrow, I do not have a firm plan going forward. While I admit that emotion factored into my message, I genuinely feel that the SAAB brand is more valuable to the company and its customer base as a separate entity or, at minimum, one affiliated with someone other than GM.
I firmly believe that genuine interest in a grassroots movement such as this can generate more than adequate money to use in promoting this cause, while demonstrating the commitment of "ordinary" SAAB owners and devotees to the continued success, perhaps survival, of this brand. By design, such a campaign will attract worldwide media attention to the possible plight of this car company and SAAB fans' interest in saving it. Hopefully, all of this would prompt one or more "big money" players to step forward and make a substantive bid to separate SAAB from GM. And along the way, whose to say campaign contributors couldn't negotiate a position in the new company (IPO, preferred stock, perhaps)?
Does this clarification help your understanding? And moreover, does it prompt you to commit resources to the campaign? I look forward to your affirmative response.
